Students from Miss Yvonne's class took turns to show their compositions to the rest of the class. Using coloured circles and handbells of different pitches/colours, each group created their own unique piece of music.
Grade 1.2, Miss Sue's class created their own hand bell melodies using colour patterns. They worked in small groups and came up with their own ideas and rules for the music. Grade 1.1HV have composed their first melody today using the notes Do Mi So. They were given some set rhythmical patterns and then they had to fill in the musical notes. Students also decided on the form of the music such as AABA, or ABC. Different students tried their melodies on the xylophone and were excited to see how they sounded! Grade 1 students experimented using different patterns of the notes Do and Mi. Students have been exploring what it takes create a melody by singing, signing with their hands and learning well known songs such as "Tie my Shoe" Today students practiced signing and singing, they worked with a buddy to create their own melody on the xylophone using a range of short musical patterns that were written on the white board. Next week, we're going to add in the note So and make some longer melodies. Students have been listening too and learning about different types of melodies/songs by singing and signing Do, Mi, So and La. They also explored playing the song "Tie my shoe on the xylophone."
