Students practiced their compositions, songs and dance pieces in small groups. Part of the process of creating and responding to music was to be able to reflect, refine and develop each performance piece to a high standard, where students could feel confident to express their ideas and creativity.
Grade 5 students create their own song
The talents of Floor, Auriane, Ran, Christina, Yonguk and Clare were shown last week as they created their own lyrics using the song "Can you feel the love tonight." They will sing this at UN night but a slightly shorter version.
You can change the future
The chance is in your hands
You can turn the world around
Coz the future's now
The pearl inside the oyster
Is like the heart of earth
It's our destiny to keep it safe
No matter where we're from
Believe in who you are
Can't you see the future's now?
The earth is ours to keep
Never too late to change our destiny
Believe in who you are
Don't you want to see a world
That's full of harmony
It's possible to change our future
As one big family
If that's what we want earth to be
A happy paradise
We better start taking action for our home
It's all up to us!
Grade 5 students are currently learning the "One World Song" sung by Dionne Warwick for the UN Night which will take place on the 9th October. We've changed some of the words to fit the theme: "The Future is Now/The World is our Oyster." In addition to this, students are preparing a mime/dance/percussion piece that they are creating themselves, with the support of Ms Stacey and the Grade 5 teachers.
Hear Dionne Warwick's version here:_
One world, free from poverty
One song, to bring equality
One world, one song
For all humanity
I want to see a world that is much brighter,
Where burdens are much lighter in our hearts;
A time when we are there for one another
And no-one stands alone, afraid, apart.
A single voice is weak
Just a whisper in the dark,
But millions joined together will be heard...
Let's be heard!
One world, one song;
Sing loud and proud and be strong
Bring suffering to an end;
Stand side by side, and
We can turn the tide, we'll be
One world, one song.
We want a world where suffering is no longer,
Where children grow stronger every day;
The right to share in all the earth can give us
Is our joy and we will lead the way.
We have the power within us;
The strength to be the change;
Together we can shape our destiny.
Sing with me!
