Mr Bani will be returning to ISS to teach ukulele to Grades Two to Five after school on Wednesdays! This is a extra special class where students will learn to play a range of chords, to strum, to keep a beat, to play some simple songs in a creative, structured and fun way! So please sign up, we look forward to seeing you again soon. We have some school ukuleles available for class use too!
Hi students, just a reminder that there will be no ECA this week as I will be on a music conference. See you next Thursday!
Part of the process in learning to play an instrument involves learning to work within a group setting and also having time to practice by oneself. The tin whistle class begins with all the students playing a few set pieces together. An aspect of technique may be worked upon such as breath control, tone or new finger patterns. Then students are encouraged to study a piece from a range of different tin whistle books that challenges them to master a new musical skill. Students are given feedback as they study alone in class. However they are also encouraged to problem solve by themselves. Lastly the group comes back together at the end of the class to share a new skill or piece that they have learnt. Sometimes the group watches videos of tin whistle players and other woodwind instruments, which is discussed as a class as to the similarities, differences and observations made in watching other players.
James is a keen musician who has been learning lots of new songs in his spare time. He played Scarborough Fair for us all yesterday. Keep up the great work James! The tin whistle class has started and students have been practicing well known songs such as Merrily we roll along! The class takes place every Thursday after school! The ukulele class is still taking place with Mr Bani but students are travelling to the Music Lab to have their lessons.
